It Is Really Happening

We have been talking for years about moving. Not just like moving to a new house or in a nearby city in the same state. We first talked about moving to Charlotte, NC a little over 3 years ago. Life got in the way and we didn't go. Next we talked about moving back to the small town that hubby is from in Iowa. Life got in the way again and we didn't go. Just recently we started talking about moving again. This time we made a list of our top 3 places and what the pro's and con's were for each of them. Then we started talking to friends and family who lived in each of these three places. The front runners were Tampa Florida or Mt Vernon Iowa (where hubby is from). We talked some more and decided on Tampa. We made a plan and then decided to change it.



Hubby and I started talking about what life would be like in Mt Vernon and I started looking at pictures from our trip last year back there. Then, it hit me. I like LOVE Mt Vernon and want to live there. From that point on there has been a huge change in our family. It's like when you know its the right thing, everything just starts falling into place without you really doing much of anything.



We decided we move anytime between now and 2 years from now. We updated resumes and sent a couple out over the weekend. Then Wednesday, hubby was working on the ambulance and got a call back from a hospital he applied at in Cedar Rapids. By the time he was able to call back they were off work so he called Thursday. They wanted him to come out for an interview! So, we talked to them some more to get more details on the position and benefits. It is a hospital he worked at for years when he lived in Mt Vernon previously. So, we booked his flight this morning and he interviews on September 8th. AHHHHHHHHH!!!



I have started packing and purging, because I am NOT moving all of this crap we have accumulated over the last few years across the country! We are so excited and can't wait to see what this opportunity brings. We believe that he will get this job, we believe this is the best move for our family. I am so thankful to have the support of our families and all of our friends.

How Did This Happen?

Well, it's official. I have a kindergartner. How did this happen?! She went from this...

in what seems like no time flat. I know, everyone tells you not to blink because time goes by so fast, but really!

The first day of Kindergarten was good. Hubby and I were both able to take her to school and she was perfectly fine. We walked to her classroom and she put her backpack in a cubby and was off like a dirty shirt to the playground and her new friends.


I had to threaten beg for a hug and kiss, all while I tried to keep myself from bawling like a big baby right there in the kindergarten playground. I held it together til I got in the car, where I promptly started crying while Hubby laughed to himself. Punk. We went and ran some errands and came home to relax a bit before having to head back to pick her back up. When we got back to the school, she had shed her dress so its a darn good thing I made her wear a tank and shorts under it!

The rest of the week went great, she is enjoying school and loves her teacher. She is making friends and seems a typical kindergartner. Well, all except she has already chosen which college she wants to attend, but that's a post for another day!

School Days

So Hannah is supposed to be starting kindergarten next Monday. See, we did an open enrollment for the school we want her to go to. We got a letter of approval back in March. The school we wanted her to go to is not in our district, after we got the letter saying we got into the school we wanted we didn't bother registering her in our 'in district' school. We don't want her to go there anyway. So fast forward to last week. We go and do the school shopping, clothes and supplies. Then Friday I call the school to find out if she is AM or PM kindergarten (that is a whole other post about how it was supposed to be full day but is now half day). The school tells me that we won't know if she is even guaranteed a spot til Thursday for Meet The Teacher because they had a bunch of new 'in district' registrations in July. Fantastic.

Hubby and I talked about it and decided that we will be homeschooling her for the year if she doesn't get a spot or if she is in PM Kindy. We talked to Hannah and she says she is ok with either so I am just hoping it all works out. But I am seriously frustrated. I mean, not knowing until 3 days before school starts exactly what is happening? What if I were a working mom and needed to know for figuring out a daycare or other type solution? Just seems like really poor planning to not have the information readily available sooner.

On a side note, Hannah's nose is really looking great. We met with the plastic surgeon last week for her one week follow up and he was pleased with the healing. He had gotten the pathology back on the tissue he removed and it was a benign mole. Nothing to worry about and he said that it shouldn't come back, but if we notice that it starts to come back we will just have to go in and take all the surrounding tissue out but he doesn't anticipate that happening.
