Happy Birthday Baby Girl!
At this time 8 years ago I was sitting in a recovery room having just given birth to my beautiful baby girl, she was all of 12 hours old and perfect. After being in labor for 22 hours delivery was a breeze. At 12:13 am on November 20th, 2004 my doctor held up my newborn baby and said 'congratualtions! it's a girl!!' and I looked at him and said, 'wait, it's a what?!'.
We had 4 ultrasounds during my pregnancy and they told me they were 80% sure we were having a boy. So of course, I did everything to get ready for my new baby including decorate the nursery in blue with firetrucks and dalmations. Got a ton of little baby boy clothes. Everything was all set for me to bring home my son, Colin Stephen. So my imagine my surprise when I was told I had a daughter!!
Of course after I got over the initial shock of not having a son but a daughter, I couldn't have been more excited. I had a DAUGHTER! squeal Lucky for us, we had picked out both a boy and a girl name when we first found out I was pregnant. After seeing her, the name we chose was absolutely perfect our little Hannah Elizabeth. She looked exactly like her daddy from the minute she came out. It was love at first sight for both of us. I don't think we put her down for the first 3-4 months of her life. If I wasn't holding her Daddy was and if there were friends or family around they were too.
Once we were discharged from the hospital the day after Hannah was born, we had to get this suitcase looking thing that had bili lights to put her under at home. She just had a little jaundice. Thankfully it wasn't too bad. After a few days she was good to go and we returned the bili lights. While she was under the lights we called her Malibu Baby ;)
This is how I found Sean and Hannah most of the time. The funny thing is that they still snuggle just like this.
Her first birthday of course was filled with friends, family and a chocolate cake. Which we found out afterward she has a topical allergy to and had huge red hives all over her little body. To say I flipped out would be a gross understatement. It seems like her whole life has just been a blur of activity and everything else that goes along with kids.
Hannah you are an amazing, beautiful, intelligent, funny, loving, caring, generous person. Daddy and I are so proud of you and couldn't ask for anything more than you.
