Cool Christmas Presents and Teaching Gun Safety, Plus a GIVEAWAY!!

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone.

My husband and I are gun owners. We believe in the right to bear arms. We have always had guns in our home, therefore we are strong believers in teaching proper gun safety.  When we started talking about what Hannah's first gun would be, Sean was very sure he wanted her to start where he did, with a Daisy Red Rider BB Gun #ItsADaisy #CollectiveBias and we decided since she turned 10 in November that this would be the perfect Christmas to give her this gift.  I think it's a super cool christmas present for kids!

Daisy is a brand that has been around a really long time and has had educational curriculum since 1948. Daisy educates roughly one million of America’s youth a year through their Ten Lesson Shooting Curriculum about BB gun use and safety (found here).  Daisy also has engaged the masses with portable, inflatable BB gun ranges that can be found at major outdoor sporting goods retailers and leading conservation organizations. The majority of those who attend the an outdoor or store event and shoot at the ranges are first-time shooters.

We decided that since Santa's Wonderland would be open, we thought it would be a great time to take a family trek out to Bass Pro Shop...when I say trek I mean, pack a lunch and book a hotel
room...it's a drive from our house to get to Bass, but it was a great excuse to have a family night.

When we first walked in Hannah was immediately drawn to the carousel. That girl loves her a carousel. After she rode the carousel, we went over to let the kids get their picture taken with Santa. Hannah of course was an old pro at seeing Santa, but this was Asa's first time. I wasn't exactly
sure how it would go down...would he be totally cool since he wasn't facing Santa or would he freak the freak out because there was a giant bearded man in a red suit holding him? To my surprise, he was cool...he didn't freak out but he wasn't exactly his usual jovial self either. But you cannot deny the adorableness that is my children's first Santa picture together...my 10 year old and my 10 month old!

Anyway, after seeing Santa we cruised around Santa's Wonderland so Hannah could play some of the games, the one she gravitated towards was the BB gun shooting game! She and Sean went over and he started to teach her the proper way to hold the gun, making sure she understood the basics of gun use...treating every gun as if its loaded...making sure the barrel is ONLY pointed at your target...to be sure of what you're shooting at...and knowing what is behind your target should you miss.

He also instructed her on how to properly hold the gun to use the sights to aim at her target. It took her a few minutes to get comfortable and trial and error to get her body to steady the rifle well enough to actually hit her target. Once she did though, she was a pretty decent shot!

After playing for a while, we walked around Bass for a while and made our way up to the guns and ammo section where we found the Daisy BB Gun in Pink and grabbed that along with safety glasses and ammunition. We hung out for a while longer before making our purchase and once that was done, we decided to hit the restaurant inside Bass Pro Shop for dinner.

A couple of days later, at home, Sean and Hannah took her new gun, ammo and safety glasses out to the back yard so he could go over the gun safety tips he has been teaching her for years and years. She is a good listener, a good girl and there is no doubt she is responsible enough to have her own bb gun at this point. I believe knowing your child and making sure that you've done your part in teaching gun safety in the home is what makes the difference in being a responsible gun owner vs just having a gun.

Hopefully this will not only teach her about proper and responsible firearm use, but introduce her to a new hobby that can be enjoyed by the whole family.
